Session description

This session will explore how the Manchester, NH School District successfully implemented a comprehensive approach to support middle school instructional coaches and administrators in promoting teacher professional growth through reflective practice. We will share insights, practices, strategies, and tools that can be adapted and implemented in your educational setting.

Outline

1. **Introduction to Reflective Practice Framework- 10 minutes
- Explanation of the reflective practice framework and its significance in teacher professional growth.
- Overview of the district's vision for continuous teacher improvement.

2. **Tools and Strategies for Reflective Practice- 15 minutes
- Presentation & engaged peer-to-peer interaction focused on specific tools utilized to facilitate reflective practice, including school-based capacity building action plans, individualized coaching action plans, feedback questions and various PLC protocols.
- Discussing how these tools support ongoing communication between instructional coaches, administrators, and teachers.

3. **Differentiated Coaching Support- 10 minutes
- Sharing results of differentiated coaching approaches that cater to individual teacher needs.
- Participant engagement via small groups or peer-to-peer focused on strategies & tools for building trust and rapport between coaches and teachers to encourage open dialogue and reflection.

4. **Implementing Differentiated PLC Support Strategies- 10 minutes
- Examples of successful reflective practice PLC tools & protocols that have led to improved instructional practices via small group activities focused on how the tools can be used or modified for use in participant’s districts/schools.

5. **Collaborative Communication for Continuous Growth- 10 minutes
- Strategies and tools for establishing effective communication among the school-based instructional leadership team focused on building teacher growth.
- Best practices for fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability in professional growth initiatives.

6. **Interactive Discussion and Q&A- integrated throughout session
- Engaging participants in sharing their experiences and challenges related to supporting teacher reflective practice growth.
- Open forum for questions, feedback, and collaborative brainstorming.
