Session description

This session will outline a collaborative design thinking project that encourages students to communicate their unique viewpoints through a variety of technologies, culminating in a visual representation of a conceptual idea. We will provide a framework for encouraging student voice and choice in the technology tools they choose to explore.

Icebreaker Activity: Share what freedom means to you as an educator.

Overview of the Project
We will go over the outline of the Freedom Project including:
Project Purpose
Expected Outcomes
Student engagement with digital tools
Project Timeline

Hands-on experience with Digital Tools
Overview of Digital Tools and participants will have an opportunity for exploration of each tool to create a sample project.
1. Canva: Creating visual representations of freedom. Explain the process of using Cricut machines and autopress to cut their designs for a pillow.
2. Adobe Firefly: Designing creative images
3. Tinkercad: Building 3D models for printing and lasercutting to symbolize freedom.
Brainstorming Session: Generate display ideas as a group.

Practical Applications for Educators
Discussion of how to tailor projects to the curriculum. What is relevant to your classroom/school's curriculum? What is meaningful and relevant to your school community? How can you foster creativity and exploration?
Action Planning: Create a plan for implementing similar projects in their classrooms.
