Session description

Step into a classroom experience where content learning and AI meet. Participants will explore the characteristics of an art period, transitioning from observation to human-led discussion to AI collaboration. This session demonstrates how technology can personalize the learning process, providing practical insights into how AI can elevate any subject.

Outline

Introduction and Overview (5 minutes):

Brief introductions and a quick energizer activity to engage participants.
Overview of the model lesson plan: using AI to explore Impressionist art.
Explanation of the pedagogy and process behind the lesson, emphasizing the role of AI in personalizing learning.

Observation Stage (10 minutes):

Participants, acting as students, observe a Google Arts & Culture collection of Impressionist art.
They complete a T-chart to record their observations on key characteristics of the art period.
Human-led discussions to deepen understanding and explore the observed art features.

AI Collaboration Stage (15 minutes):

Introduce AI as a collaborator, using a School AI Space to verify and refine their observations.
Participants compare their human insights with AI-generated feedback, discussing discrepancies and insights.

Fact-Checking and Refinement Stage (10 minutes):

Participants engage in fact-checking by using additional resources to validate both AI and human observations.
Group discussion on the limitations of AI, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking and fact-checking.

Creating AI “Walled Gardens” for Your Classroom (15 minutes):

Demonstrate the teacher’s side of the School AI Space and show how to create personalized AI Spaces for classroom use.
Discuss strategies for safely managing AI tools in educational settings.

Q&A and Wrap-up (5 minutes):

Open the floor for participant questions and feedback.
Provide resources and suggestions for further exploration of AI tools in education.
