Session description

Participants will be experiencing a language dive with the support of Chat GPT-4o. We will read a passage from The Great Gatsby that is rich with figurative language. Then using Chat GPT-4o, we will deconstruct the sentence in academic teams, then we will reconstruct the sentence in our teams, again using Chat GPT-4o as a language scaffold. Finally, we will rewrite the sentence in our own words using Chat GPT-4o as support to edit our writing.

Outline

-First, we will read the paragraph from chapter 2 of the Great Gatsby that the sentence together. I will explain the learning targets and success criteria of the lesson along with the rationale.
-Then we will get into teams and choose our roles (Facilitators, Learning Monitors and Team Members) to begin the language dives.
- First in their teams each member will deconstruct a chunk of the sentence trying to figure out its meaning. They will use ChatGPT-4o as support for this.
- Then in their teams, they will reconstruct the sentence to try to figure out what the whole sentence means. They will use ChatGPT-4o to do this in order to help.
- Each team will share their version of the sentence.
- Then we will use a beginning stem from the sentence to write own sentence with the same function of figurative language that the sentence uses.
