Session description

The AI Crime Lab is an immersive experience where participants become elite agents tasked with capturing a notorious thief. Designed as an interactive, role-playing lesson, participants work through a three-step investigation leveraging advanced technologies to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. In step one, participants explore a virtual museum in Spain using 360 Schools VR, searching for hidden clues that begin their high-stakes pursuit. In step two, agents use ChatGPT to convert numerical clues into binary code, unlocking a virtual safe with vital evidence. In the final step, participants analyze data to create an AI-generated composite sketch of the suspect to find and capture the thief. Guided worksheets and an interactive PowerPoint accompany each phase, illustrating how emerging technologies can empower learners to think critically, collaborate effectively, and develop actionable strategies to solve complex problems.

Outline

The lesson leverages technologies, like VR and AI, to engage participants in a student-centered, role-playing investigation. The goal is to enhance critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through immersive experiences. The session begins with a 10-minute introduction where participants are briefed on the mission and tools, such as 360 Schools VR and ChatGPT. Step 1 (20 minutes) immerses them in a virtual museum to uncover clues, fostering teamwork through real-time discussion. Step 2 (10 minutes) involves decoding clues using ChatGPT, promoting problem-solving and collaboration. Step 3 (20 minutes) has participants generate a composite sketch of a suspect using AI and compare their image to a suspect lineup. It concludes with reflection on the role of technology in real-world investigations. Peer feedback and assessment of tasks like the composite sketch will evaluate participants' learning, emphasizing both teamwork and technological integration in problem-solving.
