AzTEA (Arizona Technology in Education Association), is the Arizona affiliate of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and has adopted and supports ISTE’s mission and vision.
AzTEA believes in improving education by promoting the appropriate use of educational technologies. AzTEA’s missions is to provide opportunities for educators to grow professionally through in-person and online professional development opportunities, information and resources on best practices in effective technology integration so support all learners
In January 2022, the State of Arizona adopted new Arizona Educational Technology Standards (AETS) that are rooted in the ISTE Standards for Students. These standards are designed to be integrated into all content areas.
Recent research has shown that approximately ⅔ of school and district adopted technologies are not being used. As stated by a teacher: “My school decided to invest in some tablets and learning apps, but we didn’t know what to use them for after 1–2 lessons. Now they are just laying there.” The primary reason cited is lack of teacher professional learning.
To better support educators, AzTEA has put together the AzTEA Ambassador program to provide structured professional learning in best practices, designing engaging technology enriched lessons aligned to the AETS, utilizing effective educational technology frameworks such as TPACK and SAMR, and the ISTE Standards for Educators and Coaches. AzTEA Ambassadors will design and deliver professional development to Arizona educators both virtually and in-person.
Members of the AzTEA Ambassador completed a rigorous application and interview process and then attended training to prepare them to develop and deliver effective technology integration professional development to educators.
This presentation will walk you through the process from developing the program, applying and interviewing, ambassador training, and design and delivery of the technology integration modules. This process could be easily replicated by schools, districts, or organizations wanting to design similar programs.
