Dr. Virginia Duncan has been an Associate Principal in the Arts & Communications Academy of Garden City High School since 2021. Prior to that, she was an Instructional Technology Coach for 10 years. Before coaching teachers full time, Ginny taught English, History, and Drama at the middle level. Ginny works to transform professional learning by implementing flexible and personal PL models and strategies that change the way teachers learn and grow. She continues to refine PL plans with innovative ideas and environments.

Session description

Discover practical ways to implement personalized professional learning (PL) environments that support teachers through changes in schools. Using various PL structures, reimagine HOW PL happens, empowering teachers and students to be learning leaders. Flexible PL encourages ongoing growth/leadership even during times of change in education.

Purpose & objective

Presenter will share example PL plans; session attendees will gain examples, tools, ideas, and structures for promoting and developing a flexible and personalized professional learning model that maintains momentum and supports teachers through structural changes in districts/schools. Presenter will share personal experiences about reimagining PL including ongoing, year-long leveled professional learning; novice teacher orientation structures; PL “events” that excite adult learners; as well as marketing strategies to engage adult learners.
