Do you take a chance on showcasing all voices, given the opportunity for pushback? Do you know the feeling of hitting the jackpot with every spin of the reels or have you gone bankrupt? This session will explore ways to increase communication, expand on collaboration, push boundaries, embrace vulnerability, and build lasting relationships that will make a difference for students, teachers, leaders, and school communities. Let’s cash in on the opportunity to connect all learning for every learner!
The purpose of this session is to leverage voice and equality for a diverse world of learners by taking risks, building relationships, pushing boundaries and creating the chance to network by providing an opportunity to challenge the status quo.
-Analyze a dual perspective of an administrator and teacher that are viewing education through a diverse lens based on the common goal of equality for all learners.
-Demonstrate the need to reach all voices invested in the education of every child, adult and community relying on equality and the inclusion of all voices.
-Create the chance needed within education to cultivate a sense of belonging for everyone, including self-care, and leadership within all roles, regardless of their background, beliefs, gender or physical appearance.
This interactive, game-based session will give learners the chance to take a gamble on their own professional learning and go “All In” as we discuss the importance of building relationships, connecting through collaboration, and taking risks to make a difference in every classroom. Like a visit to the casino floor, players (participants) will engage in different table games (learning opportunities) that are connected to critical bets that every teacher and leader need to make in education.
Our opening bet, “Show Your Cards” will allow participants to get to know one another and create face-to-face connections with those who may (or may not) already be in your PLN. (10 minutes)
The “Token of Appreciation” experience will encourage participation to send out gratitude to someone who has helped them to take a risk. (5-10 minutes)
Introduce the idea of being “All In” as an educator and introduce the 7 bets that will be highlighted in the session. We will discuss the value of risk-taking and the way that relationships can be built between teachers and administration to support innovative practices in schools. We will share ideas from our experiences, including relevant technology tools that have helped us to stay connected, be creative, and expand learning beyond the classroom. (presentation 15-20 min)
Small groups will engage in collaborative dialogue in our “Roll the Dice” game. As participants roll a die, they’ll share ideas for an innovative twist for engaging parents, a blog they regularly read, a podcast they listen to, an app that promotes creativity, etc. (15 minutes)
In “I’ll Raise You”, partners will turn and talk about an innovative practices they are trying in the classroom. In an effort to up our game, we’ll share ways that technology can raise the stakes and increase student engagement. (10-15 minutes)
One of the bets it to “Challenge the Pit Boss” We’ll use video (FlipGrid) to capture participant ideas for how they can challenge the status quo and pitch a new and innovative idea to their “pit boss”. (15-20 minutes)
“What Happens in Vegas” details the importance of sharing our learning with others and expanding beyond the four walls of our school buildings. Participants will tweet/post something that they learned in the session and post to social media. (10 minutes)
“Million Dollar Decision” is a game that will prompt participants to make choices in a fast-paced (rock/paper/scissors like) competition to end the session. (10 minutes)
