Session description

Learners will be introduced to Minecraft: Education, a game-based learning platform building C+STEM skills, unleashing creativity and engaging students in collaboration and problem-solving. Participants will create builds within Minecraft: Education and identify ways Minecraft and CS concepts can be brought into the classroom.

Purpose & objective

By the end of this session, participants will be able to do basic navigation and builds within the Minecraft Education worlds and identify ways that Minecraft Education and CS concepts can be brought into their classrooms and learning environments. Participants will take a shared text and respond to a prompt as a design challenge in the Minecraft application, utilizing
special educational tools. There will be an opportunity to browse some of the existing lessons offered by Minecraft Education and start the planning process of how to bring this back to the educator's site. Facilitators will walk participants through their professional learning plan to expand computer science district-wide with game-based learning as one entry point. Not only will we celebrate the success of the learners in the session, but also share evidence of success with this learning for educators who have taken our professional learning around game-based learning.
