Session description

Find out how we used challenges, badges and Easter eggs to help teachers engage in a book study and actively participate in a global learning network. You'll see how gamifying a book study can enable you to establish an online learning culture based on professional conversation about the text.

Purpose & objective

Purpose:
In this session we share our gamified book study strategy in which we use challenges, badges and easter eggs to encourage educators to engage in professional learning conversations around a text. The strategy has proven useful to encourage educators who are typically reluctant to engage in this type of professional learning. We’ll explain how we choose activities for challenges, behaviors for badges and easter egg engagements.

Objectives:
- Participants will learn about gamification strategies.
- Participants will learn the components online of professional conversations.
- Participants will evaluate gamification of the book study as a professional learning strategy.
