Digital Learning Initiative Section Chief
Ashley McBride, Ed.D., is a digital learning leader for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.She has experience as a secondary English teacher, instructional technology facilitator and director of technology. McBride has led districtwide professional learning and statewide initiatives that help promote the effective and safe integration of technology for administrators, educators and students. In addition to her work with the state of North Carolina, McBride serves on the board of the North Carolina Technology in Education Society (NCTIES) and is also a COSN Certified Educational Technology Leader. She holds a doctorate in educational technology from Central Michigan University where she researched technology-related professional learning and educational technology coaching. Her experiences in K-12 education and her research in the field informed her 2021 ISTE-published book, The Edtech Coaching Primer: Supporting Teachers in the Digital Age Classroom.
Assoc Dean of Students & Ed Tech Prof
Natalie B. Milman, Ph.D. is Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Professor of Educational Technology in the Educational Technology Leadership Program at George Washington University. She is also a member of the interdisciplinary Human-Technology Collaborations PhD program and research lab (go.gwu.edu/htc) and winner of the 2017 Bender Teaching Award. Her research focuses on the design of instruction and models for the effective leadership and integration of technology at all academic levels; online student support needs, engagement, and learning; issues of diversity, inclusion, and digital equity; and the use of digital portfolios for professional development.
Nicholas Provenzano is the technology coordinator and makerspace director at University Liggett School in Michigan. He’s also an author, makerspace builder, international keynote speaker and consultant. He’s been recognized as the Technology Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning and the Outstanding Teacher Award from ISTE. Provenzano is a Google Certified Innovator, ASCD Emerging Leader, Microsoft Minecraft Mentor, Raspberry Pi Certified Educator, Sphero Hero, Adobe Education Leader and a TEDEd Innovative Educator. His bestselling books are Your Starter Guide to Makerspaces, The Maker Mentality and Beyond the Poster Board.
Anthony Rebora is the Chief Content Officer for ISTE-ASCD. Previously, he was the editor in chief of Educational Leadership, ASCD's flagship magazine, and led content development for the association's fast-evolving digital outlets. Under his leadership, Educational Leadership won numerous awards for editorial excellence, increased the breadth of its coverage and contributors, and expanded its online reach. He was formerly a managing editor at Education Week, where he oversaw coverage of teaching and teaching policy. As an editor, his foremost goals are to empower diverse educator voices and raise awareness of critical issues and solutions in education.
Session description
The panel will be moderated by Anthony Rebora, ASCD's chief content officer, and will explore current challenges and solutions in integrating classroom technology. It focuses on ways educators, post-pandemic era can move beyond rote, "transactional" uses of technology and instead use digital tools and platforms to deepen instruction.
Purpose & objective
The purpose of this presentation is to provide educators with a comprehensive understanding of how technology can be effectively used to deepen learning experiences. It aims to inspire and empower educators to leverage technology as a tool to enhance student engagement, critical thinking, collaboration, and overall learning outcomes. Educators will be introduced to a variety of digital tools, applications, and online resources that can support deep learning experiences.
