Event Information
Content and Engagement: Participants will engage in a "Senario Slam" using situational coaching cards to discuss, investigate, and role play situations. Participants will encounter barriers and challenges, asking them to problem solve with approaches, strategies, or resources that they can use when returning to their schools and districts in the future.
Time: Varied amounts of time will be spent on scenarios and potential solutions. Many of these discussions will become part of the podcast that is occurring during the session as a way of recording and sharing out the groups' ideas. Time will be left for questions and a reflection at the end of the session.
Process: The session will center around the discussion of coaching scenarios. During the session, the presenters will begin a podcast, where they will introduce coaching scenarios, inviting participants up for an opportunity to discuss their approach live. The podcast will be shared out so those in attendance and those unable to attend can benefit from the conversations that occurred during the session.
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs): Research shows that PLCs are effective environments for teachers to share best practices, develop new strategies, and adapt to evolving instructional demands. By engaging in collaborative settings, educators can increase their professional commitment and enhance their instructional skills, particularly in tech-integrated environments. These communities foster reflective dialogue and collaboration, crucial for adapting to new challenges (e.g., the constant emergence of new tech tools). (Zamiri & Esmaeili, 2024; Trust, 2018)
Knowledge Sharing and Peer Learning: Knowledge sharing within learning communities—such as through a "fishbowl" or "live podcast" format—encourages open exchange of strategies and real-time problem solving. Modern technologies and interactive formats (like your proposed game) are effective in making knowledge sharing more dynamic, which can lead to increased engagement and innovation in teaching practices. (Zamiri & Esmaeili, 2024; Giles & Hargreaves, 2006)
Addressing Novel Situations: As technology evolves rapidly, educators are frequently presented with situations that they have not encountered before. The "Scenario Slam!" game allows coaches and participants to think on their feet, which is aligned with research supporting the need for educators to be nimble and responsive in their learning processes. Interactive, quick-thinking formats can enhance problem-solving skills and promote a deeper understanding of tech integration strategies. (Giles & Hargreaves, 2006; Goddard et al., 2007)
