Outline

Outline: Empowering Early Learners: Integrating Literacy and Math for Diverse Students
Total Duration: 60 minutes

1. Introduction & Context Setting (10 minutes)

Content: Overview of the challenges and opportunities in integrating literacy and mathematics for diverse learners, with a focus on Black and Brown students.
Engagement: Interactive poll or reflection exercise where participants share their experiences with literacy and math instruction for diverse learners.
Process: Use presentation slides to present data and context. Facilitate a brief discussion to connect participants' experiences to the session’s objectives.

2. Understanding and Addressing Challenges (10 minutes)

Content: Discussion on systemic barriers and cultural factors impacting early literacy and math development.
Engagement: Small group discussion or breakout sessions where participants discuss specific challenges and share insights.
Process: Use a collaborative tool (e.g., shared document or virtual whiteboard) for groups to note their thoughts, then share key points with the larger group.

3. Culturally Responsive Instructional Strategies (15 minutes)

Content: Presentation of effective strategies for integrating literacy and mathematics in a culturally responsive way.
Engagement: Interactive demonstration of strategies, followed by a hands-on activity where participants design a lesson plan or classroom activity.
