Event Information
The first 10 minutes will be an intro and explanation of the need for cybersecurity education, and clarification on what that means. Cyber education goes past digital citizenship and cyber hygiene, and into mitigation of threats.
Next 10-15 minutes will be an explanation of the Career Kickstart program, the development of the pathways, the possible varied outcomes for students like directly to career with certifications, heading to a 2 or 4 year institute, or heading to the military, and why cybersecurity is so vital for students now.
The next 30 minutes will be an engaging hands-on activity to illustrate some of the types of lessons used in Career Kickstart. (Understanding binary signals with paper? Walking around to simulate moving through a network and getting denied by a firewall? Deconstructing letters to send and reconstructing them when received? All easier to understand than to just read about since we can't always see what is happening inside a computer.) Lessons are tied to real world concepts and start with concrete examples before moving into more technical activities.
