Jamie Rifkowitz began her career as a Middle School Math Teacher, teaching grades 6, 7, and 8. During that time, she had the opportunity to pilot a blended learning chromebook program in her classroom. After 8 years, Jamie made the switch to become a District Technology Facilitator. Additionally, she holds certifications in Elementary Education K-6, Middle School Math Grades 6-8, and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. Jamie is Google Certified Level 1 and 2 and is a Certified Google Trainer. She was recently named the 2021-2022 Educational Professional of the Year for Harding Elementary School located in Kenilworth, NJ

Session description

Discover how to use various apps and extensions available within the blended learning environment with all grade levels. We'll review blended learning environment scenarios such as the station rotation model, workshop model and the What I Need (WIN) Model. Get resources and guides to tools you can use immediately in your classroom.

Purpose & objective

As a result of their participation, participants will be able to effectively leverage apps/extensions within the blended learning environment.

Participants will be able to:
-Further understand the ramifications of the blended learning environment
-Analyze the most effective blended learning classroom model to use (station rotation model, WIN (What I Need) time, flipped classroom)
-Learn how to effectively lead and manage a blended learning classroom. This will include classroom management strategies geared towards blended learning as well as developing effective playlists based on student learning objectives

Outline

Content: Apps and Extensions in a Blended Learning Environment
- Variety of apps/extensions to use at each grade level
-Blended learning strategies-- included but not limited to classroom management, development of playlists as well as desired classroom models via pros/cons

Activities:
-Engagement survey in real time to better gear activities to participants
-Slideshow featuring details/key understandings of the blended learning environment as well as how it can lead to and foster student growth and achievement
-Time to create via templates based on participant's desired model/roadmap

Time will depend based on audience. However, at least half of the session will be geared towards attendee creation of materials

Process: Peer-to-peer interaction, speaker led engagment, survey in real time, creation block based on templates/resources
