Dr. LeeAnn Lindsey is an award-winning educator, ed tech specialist, and digital citizenship junkie. Her mission is to change the way digital citizenship education is taught so that all students feel empowered to live and learn in our ever-increasingly digital world. LeeAnn was a contributing team member to the ISTE Standards for Students (2016) and Educators (2017) which prioritize “the new digital citizenship.” She also considers herself a taco aficionado.

Session description

Digital citizenship includes a myriad of skills people need for full participation in our increasingly digital world. When taught haphazardly through assemblies or standalone lessons, the result is often inequitable and shallow exposure to critical digital instruction. Join us to explore a framework that can help “systemize” #digcit curriculum integration.

Purpose & objective

Participants will:
* Identify four ways to Edvolve teaching strategies to integrate digital citizenship
* Explore a FREE resource that organizes digital citizenship explorations
* Use a digital citizenship framework to strengthen curricular connections

Outline

1. Introduction
Facilitator introduces the topic and provides an overview of the session

2. Warm Up Activity
Participants reflect on the skills digital citizens need to fully participate in a digital society

3. Presentation
Facilitator briefly shares four ways to "Edvolve" teaching and learning to more seamlessly integrate digital citizenship into content areas.

4. Framework Exploration
Participants are introduced to a FREE digital citizenship framework, its informational structure, and alignment to content standards (including the ISTE Standards).

5. Closing and Questions
Participants will reflect on their learning and how their role in teaching digital citizenship.

Supporting research

- The presenter conducted action research for her graduate program that supports the systemic integration of technology (and ISTE Standards) into curricular systems at the organizational level. The research found that embedding specific student objectives into content area professional development, curricular documentation, and other instructional systems strengthens its overall implementation.
