Dr. LeeAnn Lindsey is an award-winning educator, ed tech specialist, and digital citizenship junkie. Her mission is to change the way digital citizenship education is taught so that all students feel empowered to live and learn in our ever-increasingly digital world. LeeAnn was a contributing team member to the ISTE Standards for Students (2016) and Educators (2017) which prioritize “the new digital citizenship.” She also considers herself a taco aficionado.

Session description

Are you a school or district leader who wants to take digital citizenship education to the next level? Do you wish digital citizenship was embedded into the culture of your organization? Learn about key elements that embed and sustain digital citizenship in educational organizations.

Purpose & objective

Participants will:
- Consider what “culture” means with regard to embedding digital citizenship into an organization's identity.
- Identify each of the 7 keys to creating a culture of positive
- Reflect on the alignment (or misalignment) of internal systems and policies in their own organizations to their digital citizenship vision
- Identify one or more actions they can take right away to more fully embed digital citizenship in their organization’s culture

Outline

1. Introduction
Facilitator introduces the topic and provides an overview of the session

2. Dig Cit Culture "quiz"
Participants take a short quiz (think Cosmo style quiz) to reflect on their current dig cit culture

3. 7 Keys
Facilitator introduces the "7 keys" of unlocking a culture of digital citizenship

4. Participant Activity
Participants share, discuss, and reflect on the implementation of the 7 keys and identify "next steps" for strengthening the dig cit culture in their own organization.

5. Share Out, Questions, and Closing
Participants will share out key takeaways; Facilitator will answer questions and provide contact information.

This session will use a Google site to host information and links to the activity resources.

The 7 keys framework was developed (and is constantly refined) by Drs. LeeAnn Lindsey and Kristen Mattson. They have drawn upon their own experiences, as well as general theories of change, and literature on school culture. Some examples include:
