Participants will:
Explore the most recent brain research that supports learning growth
Examine frameworks that help support learning growth
Engage with activities that can be used with students and utilize this brain research and supporting frameworks
We will be utilizing protocols for meaningful engagment that teachers can easily transfer to student experiences.
Our core presentation will be a slide deck with attendees adding input on chart paper with digital interactive opportunities including flip, jamboard, augemented reality, and virtual reality. Resources shared will be easily retreivable through a google site.
Success will be meausured by engagement and participation in the collaborative flip activity.
*Who is here? We will gather information on the audience so we can tailor the session to their needs (5 min)
*Discussion- We will pose a collaborative discussion prompt (Describe concerns you have seen arise with your students that did not exist or were not as prevalent with your students prior to Covid.) and use the think-square protocol for participants to discuss (10 min)
*Research- We will share the research supporting the negative effects of anger, depression, and anxiety on the brain as well as research supporting strategies to change these brain stages to increase executive functioning abilities. (15 min)
*Classroom Strategies- Using a flipgrid/station protocol, we will give strategies for ways to change brain states as well as supporting materials in the CASEL framework to inform the design of classroom practices. Participants will share takeaways with each station through Flip to create a collaborative culture of continuous learning. (20 mins)
*Reflection and sharing - Using the What, So what, now what protocol we will have participants reflect on their learning and share out how they intend to use that learning in their environment. (10 mins)
