Jenny Foxe is in her tenth year as a special education teacher in District 75, NYC Public schools special education district for students with challenges that prohibit participation in the general education classroom. Her expertise is in adapting curriculum to suit her student's unique and varied needs. She is also the technology coordinator for her school and supports other schools as the NYC DOE system moves towards a more cohesive and equitable vision of the implementation of technology in the NYC public school system.
Kerry McGarvey is a STEM & Technology teacher at PS24Q in New York City. Kerry also provides technical support to students, families, and teachers. In addition to her work in her school she also works as a #NYCSchools tech trainer to help run Apple After Hours, the Apple Teacher Certification, and other events. As a result of this work she was named an Apple Distinguished Educator and her school was named an Apple Distinguished School.
Session description
Through hands-on experimentation with a variety of free and low-cost applications and resources, attendees will learn how to teach younger and self-contained special education students to plan and execute their own stop-animation storytelling and documentary projects.

Purpose & objective
Educators will learn how to implement stop motion animation to support other subjects in general education and suggested adaptations for a self-contained classroom. Both presenters have successfully implemented stop-motion units in their classrooms and also supported students to utilize stop-motion animation as a creative and a documentation tool.
Introduction - 2 mins - who we are and what we do Use - 8 mins - how to introduce and use stop motion - suggestions for using stop-motion as an assessment tool in other subjects Applications - 5 mins - explore some free and low cost stop motion animations Projects - 5 mins - see some completed projects and how they support other learning Adaptions - 10 mins - visual supports, and simplification of instructions for the self-contained classroom Practice - 15mins - attendees will use their own devices to complete a challenge which will allow them learn how it can be used with their students Presentations -10 some audience members will present heir projects Q & A - 5 mins
