Colby has formally worked in education for eight years. He taught Social Studies at the Secondary level for 6 years and was an Educational Technology Coach in his building. For the past two years, he has worked at the district level as a digital learning specialist helping teachers to use technology to enhance teaching and learning. Colby is a Canva Teacher Canvassador, Wakelet Ambassador, Google Certified Coach, and has a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

Session description

Our world is more visual than ever. In nearly every way we communicate we are driven by visual communication. Canva is one powerful tool students can use to create visual communication and develop skills for communicating today and in the future. Explore Canva's features and get ideas for classroom use.

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is for participants to become familiar with Canva and and the wide variety of ways students and teachers can use it to create high-quality visual communication. Participants will see ideas they can use in the classroom to get their students to create beautiful visual designs to express their ideas. Attendees will participate in a short design challenge in which they will create a simple visual communication. Teachers will leave more prepared to assist students in developing the knowledge and skills needed to communicate in our increasingly digital and visual world.
