Session description

Join Moriah and Tiffany as they explain how they have used flexible tech tools to create formative assessments and implement flexible grouping on the fly. This personalized approach will help teachers better meet the needs of their students with mastery-based practices.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to use technology to formatively assess students for the purpose of creating flexible grouping to meet student needs.

Participants will be able to determine which tool will best fit their needs for the assessment data they are trying to collect. (Google Forms, LMS Quizzes, Padlet, NearPod, etc.)

Participants will be able to plan and implement flexible groups based on assessment data.

Outline

Participants will enter and complete a formative assessment to gauge their level of understanding and will be placed in groups based on the results. Groups will be set up to show how quickly and easily this can happen, with this section only taking a few minutes.

Teachers will engage in learning within these flexible groups based on their reported level for 10 minutes, and will come back together to share out. These groups will have peer to peer interaction, some asynchronous device based activities, and some reading.

After the flexible groups, we will have a 10 minute "mini lesson" on strategies and tools available, and will conclude the session with questions and resource sharing.
