Joanne Seale is a high school ELA teacher with 20+ years experience in the Hauppauge UFSD located on Long Island. Teaching Inclusion classes as well as college-level classes including AP Literature and IB Language and Literature, Joanne has incorporated educational technology tools into her classroom throughout her entire career. She is a Google Certified Trainer, Wakelet Ambassador, EdPuzzle Coach and Screencastify Genius. She has presented at a variety of conferences both face-to-face and virtually on best practices in the classroom toward innovative ways to approach blended learning, research and writing instruction.

Session description

Digital portfolios allow students to showcase their work while empowering them to define and craft their own work product. Focusing on student voice and choice, this workshop will discuss the pedagogy behind digital portfolios and some of the platforms to use, including Wakelet, Book Creator and Google Sites.

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce to attendees the impact portfolios can have in the classroom as a way to engage student voice, choice and agency in their learning.

Attendees will be able to:
* investigate the multiple ways incorporating portfolios can empower students
* explore a variety of tools to create portfolios including Wakelet, Book Creator and Google Sites
* introduce portfolios to their students upon return to classrooms
* prepare / curate models for classroom use
