EdTech Coordinator and LX Designer
Kimberly, a mechatronics engineer, discovered her teaching passion through makerspace, reigniting her career. She has been an ISTE Conference presenter four times. With 5 years of experience as a middle/high school teacher and makerspace specialist, Kimberly now serves as an Edtech Coordinator with a focus on UX for Learning at Fundación Azteca, enhancing educational user experiences. Kimberly contributed to notable projects like InGenia, Zapopan's public library program, and a Design Thinking workshops for "Mujeres sin Límite". She also worked as an instructional designer for Estación Meiquer and is developing Insitu, an educational data-driven consultancy.
Session description
We know about the importance and impact of maker STEAM education, but what if we could develop character and social-emotional learning (SEL) using this approach in alternative learning environments? In this session, you'll learn about how we develop students' character and SEL skills through our maker STEAM+C methodology.
Purpose & objective
Educational System in Mexico does not attend those academically gifted students that can transform positively our country and the Latin American region, so our Educational Model looks for provide high quality education to those talented students that come from disadvantaged contexts in order to develop their talent and give them opportunities so they and flourish their high potential.
We have created an innovative methodology that develops students' character strengths and SEL skills through Maker STEAM learning experiences.
Our methodology includes tools from the 5Es instructional design method, design thinking and Maker STEAM educational approach.
Educational or infrastructure challenge/situation.
Our project includes a powerful PD strategy, best practices based on data, lesson planning tools, among other meaningful tools that can be used to implement this methodology in any other educational context.
