Information Literacy Specialist
Dr. Monica Loas, currently an Information Literacy Specialist (librarian), has experience as a special education teacher, Instructional Technology Specialist, testing coordinator, and instructional specialist. Her passions are promoting diversity in literature as well as enhancing the school library's space to be accessible and to include a makerspace area to grow creativity. Dr. Loas presented at local conferences on tools to help teachers and students succeed in their roles. Dr. Loas received her Master of Education in Administration and in Special Education, focusing on Educational Diagnostician. Dr. Loas recently completed the Professional Leadership - Social Education/Social Justice doctoral program.
Session description
Looking for multicultural resources and literature to use for upcoming lessons, either remotely or in person? We'll unpack how to reach special populations, why it's important to offer diverse literature to learners and how to implement the tips we'll share.
Purpose & objective
Educators will know that integrating diverse texts helps cultivate an environment of acceptance, motivation, and unity among students in the classroom.

Educators will be able to write a lesson implementing a diverse text that addresses an academic concept while providing student representation.
