Session description

Learn how to start a district STEM challenge. You'll get suggestions and ideas; competition guidelines; and have time to create a rubric for the competition that includes selecting book(s) that connect to the theme of the challenge, getting support from stakeholders and partnering with local businesses.

Purpose & objective

Participants will learn how to start a district STEM Challenge, suggestions and ideas for a STEM Challenge will be provided, guidelines for the competition, creating a rubric for the competition, selecting book(s) that connect to the theme of the challenge, getting support from stakeholders, and partnering with local business.

Content will be spent on the following:15-20 minutes

-How to start a district-wide STEM Challenge
-How to get support from stakeholders(administration, board members, business partners)
-How to get students interested in competition
-Guidelines/Rules of Competitions
-Creating a Rubric to Evaluate Competition
-Examples of previous STEM Challenges
-How to select books that connect to the theme of the challenge

Process: We will share a Google site of pictures and resources that were used in planning a district competition. (5 minutes)
