Participants will:
Understand what positive coaching is and how it differs from other coaching strategies.
Discover strategies and resources for positive coaching conversations.
Explore activities that can be used with educators to support their practice and growth.
Introduction- I will gather information about those attending and what they are hoping to get from the session. This will allow me to focus on discussing the positive coaching practices that will be most relevant to them. (5 min)
What is Positive Coaching- Participants will be introduced to what positive coaching is, how it differs from other coaching strategies, and look at the research behind the idea. (10 minutes)
Coaching Conversations- Participants will be able to explore positive coaching conversation strategies. We will look at 3 types of conversations during this time (informal coaching conversations, coaching cycle feedback conversations, and personalized support conversations). During this time participants will also be able to share some of their own strategies with the group that align to the positive coaching practices ideals.(15 minutes)
Professional Growth Planning- Participants will look at ways to support teachers as they build their professional learning plans for the year. This conversation will be accompanied by immediately usable resources that will help the coach support his/her teachers from the formation of the plan through, implementation, and into capturing growth data. (15 min).
Professional Learning Sessions and Supports- We will jump from professional learning planning to looking at how to set up professional learning sessions aligned to positive coaching strategies. (10 min)
Reflection and Take Aways- Using the KIVA protocol, participants will share out learnings and goals from the session. (10 min)
