Bryanna Hanson is a Strategic Partnership Lead at Learner-Centered Collaborative. As a former Spanish teacher in a variety K-12 settings often with 1:1 devices, Bryanna is experienced in leveraging technology as a tool to make learner-centered practices more efficient. She is passionate about making learning fun, authentic, and meaningful.

Session description

How can the learner-centered educator find more time in the day for building relationships and an inclusive community, meeting students where they are and creatively co-designing lessons? This session provides eight ways to leverage technology to make personalized, authentic and competency-based learning more efficient and effective.

Purpose & objective

Participants in this session will explore 8 different strategies for leveraging technology to make learning more personalized, authentic and competency-based. They will leave with a list of ideas and tools to implement immediately in their classroom.

10 min [Whole Group-Interactive]: Connections Over Computers–getting to know each other before we dive into technology
10 min [Whole Group-lecture]: What is learner-centered education, the evolving role of the educator and how can technology help?
30 min [Small Groups-Interactive]: Jigsaw Activity (devices needed to access resources)
15 min: Expert Groups will explore resources/ideas based on their focus
Group 1 focus-Personalize learning
Group 2 focus-Increase authenticity of learning
Group 3 focus-Make learning competency-based
15 min: Collaboration Groups share their expert group takeaways and discuss ideas and wonders together
10 min [Whole Group-Interactive]: Closing

Participants will experience some of the technology tools shared with them such as polling tools, digital exit ticket and digital collaboration tools.
