Melissa Stark is a Special Education Teacher and Instructional Technology Coach in New York City’s Department of Education. She has presented at ISTE, Closing the Gap, EdxEdNYC and New York City’s Department of Education Technology Summits focusing on making curriculum more accessible to all. She is the recipient of the 2021 NYC DOE Excellence in Technology Award.

Session description

Learn how all students can use technology to ensure their rights through the Communication Bill of Rights developed by the National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons With Severe Disabilities. We'll share apps, programs and materials that help students regardless of learning profile communicate effectively.

Purpose & objective

Purpose: The purpose of this presentation is to provide technology tools for all learners to communicate in the school environment.

Objective: Regardless of student ability, all students should have the tools needed to successfully get their point across, get their wants and needs met, and feel comfortable sharing their experiences in the school setting. This presentation will review the Communication Bill of Rights and provide Technological tools to support students in individual and group environments facilitate learning.
