A digital presence framework will be highlighted and we'll explore ways to develop policies for an empowered use of technology.

Purpose & objective

This presentation aims to contextualize the implementation of digital citizenship for education leaders and educators in the context of cultivating a positive digital presence. In this session, learners will gain insights into system-level policies and practices that support technology implementation with emphasis on creating an inclusive and equitable culture of digital citizenship. A digital presence framework will be highlighted and learners will explore ways to develop policies for an empowered use of technology.

By providing a systemwide look at how professional learning is designed and implemented at LA Unified, participants will consider ways to rethink professional learning experiences by exploring the active connections and alignment across the ISTE Education Leader Standards, ISTE Educator Standards, and ISTE Student Standards.
The objectives of this session are:
1. To exemplify how the ISTE Standards for education leaders and educators provide a framework to rethink the development of system wide policies and professional learning and create innovative learning environments.
2. To engage participants in the design and implementation of personalized and ISTE Standards-based professional development for diverse learners, educators and students alike.
3. To provide a systemwide view of how LA Unified creates the essential conditions necessary to effectively leverage digital tools and resources for learning.

Supporting research

Los Angles Unified's professional learning design and implementation around the ISTE Standards have been featured by ISTE's Empowered Learner Magazine in its April 2018 issue at https://www.iste.org/explore/articleDetail?articleid=2160 .

The adoption of the ISTE Student Standards in 2016 supported LA Unified's turnaround from tool-driven to leading with instruction. This panel presentation will build on the beginnings of L.A. Unified's turnaround story to now incorporate the district's efforts in calibrating all stakeholders, from district leadership to school site administrators, teacher leaders and classroom teachers as well as parents and partners.

Part of that calibration include the ISTE Education Leader Standards and ISTE Educator Standards on top of the 2016 adoption of the ISTE Student Standards. In essence, this presentation will bring to life the implementation of all three sets of standards in different contexts and roles across a large system.
