Heather is a member of the Teacher Goals family and is writing a spin-off to "The Canva Classroom" by Amanda Fox focusing on mathematics. She is one of the first teacher Canvassadors, chosen for her interactive lessons for Canva and was called one of Illinois' brightest edtech minds by IETC. Heather loves speaking and sharing her edtech and math knowledge and has presented at numerous conferences such as ISTE, IETC, EdTechNext, and FETC.

Recipient of the 2016 ISTE Emerging Leader Award, recognized as a PBS Digital innovator for her initiatives in enhancing student learning with technology, Fox has also served as President of the Young Educator Network for ISTE, and received the President's Volunteer Award in 2018. Erika is a Digital Learning Coach and a 6-8 as Digital Media Teacher specializing in Green Screen and Video Production. In her 30th year, she has created and presented district-wide Mindfulness Professional Development and serves as a leader on the SEL Core District Team. Dubbed “Green Screen Gal”, Erika shares her passions through professional development and online courses. She has hosted webinars for Wakelet, WeVideo, Adobe, and presented in educational summits, podcasts, and LIVE webinars. Erika also hosted the Green Screen Summit in July 2021 and recently was featured on the cover of the of Ed Tech K12 Magazine.

Dr. John Wick is the principal of a Catholic TK-8th grade school in just North of Los Angeles California. He has served for 14 years in education leading schools and teaching courses that range from Studio arts to Middle school Science. Having taught students in every grade from Kindergarten to 8th grade He targets his leadership and instruction based upon the developmental level of the students. He has worked as the director of education for a neuroeducation startup company and desires to help all teachers and students succeed.

Session description

Earth's mightiest teachers come together to smash the apps in the Canva Universe to engage students in infinite ways. Learn about the internal and external apps that are integrated with Canva, and how to work together to create learning experiences that will leave students marveling at their designs!

Purpose & objective

In this session participants will learn about and practice integrating popular EdTech tools with CANVA as an "app smash."
Participants will create their own "gauntlet" of creations from all they have learned.

Outline

In this session will introduce participants to app smashing platforms within the context of an infinity gauntlet. Each stone represents an app. We will alternate presenting on the different stones.

Introduction: Canva and App smashing/Presenter Intros 10 mins

App #1 Nearpod All presenters will share a way they have used nearpod in the classroom. 5 mins
Participants will engage in a nearpod activity to gain feedback on their background with Canva and the apps so we can tailor the presentation to address their learning goals. 5 mins

App # 2 Mote (5 mins) Heather will share ways to app smash with Mote and use Cases.5 mins
Participants will add motes to a collaborative Canva doc sharing how they would use the tool in their classroom.

App #3 Wakelet ( 5 mins) John will present on how to use wakelet to curate resources and have students create their own. He will demonstrate the embed feature to put wakelet collections inside of Canva Designs or share how to link to them using hyperlinks. 5 mins
Participants will add to a community wakelet. 5 mins

App #4 Book Creator Amanda Will present on Book Creator and showcase powerful ways to design books with Canva inside of book creator. She will share lessons and units designed to deliver content (Sweded Cinema, Literature Circles, Food Sagas, and Podcasting) and share student samples.
Participants will be introduced to a book creator book where they will add their final culminating activity to.

App #5 DoInk Erika will share Doink ways to create videos and app smash within Canva to leverage Green screen and video inside of Canva presentations and designs. She will show how to export the videos to Canva and add elements from the platform. 10 mins
Participants will create transparent gifs and animated elements to create dynamic backgrounds and videos. 10 mins

App # 6 Microsoft Flip All participants will share a strategy for using Flip with Canva. They will share their Canva Gauntlet Microsoft Flip videos with attendees to model the expectations of how to complete the culminating activity. 10 mins

Participants will create their own Infinity Gauntlet of apps using a Canva graphic organizer and make a video in Flip. They will add their video to a bookcreator project and share an example of appsmashing. They will participate in an end of the session idea slam of the best way to appsmash. As they present the audience will snap if they love their idea. Those with the most snaps will win copies of The Canva Classroom and Canva Cash. 20 mins
