Session description

Leaders, discover ways you can recruit teacher leaders in your building, generate high-quality professional development opportunities and build the capacity of staff, with a focus on the ISTE Standards to support student achievement. We'll share successful stories of their model from the Fulton County Vanguard team.

Purpose & objective

Purpose: Professional development and job embedded PD are essential parts of educational growth. Schools and districts must know what professional development is needed to increase student achievement based on the current reality of the system. Providing this in a consistent way is a challenge for instructional leaders. The Vanguard Team in Fulton County has worked to combat this challenge for the last 10 years. Vanguard has created an organization with members at every school in our large district. Members range from teachers to district employees all with the same purpose to grow the implementation of instructional technology within their school and therefore their district. Members of the Vanguard team engage in different styles of professional development throughout the year and engage in problem solving with each other to provide schools with timely and relevant resources to solve problems using instructional technology. As Vanguards 10 year anniversary is celebrated this year, it is clear the processes and procedures are successfully building community throughout the district and the tools and resources that are brought back for the schools are meaningful and used causing a continued need and desire to further grow the work of the vanguard team.
