Yaritza Villalba leads professional learning opportunities, centered on culturally responsive sustaining education (CRSE), to an international network of educators. With thirteen years of experience in Urban education, Yaritza supplies many effective strategies and resources for educating and supporting BIPOC (Black, Indigenous. and people of color) students and families. Over her career, Yaritza became an Assistant Principal and an author of culturally relevant children's books creating opportunities and experiences for students of color to gain fair access to resources that spark critical thinking and meaningful conversations in and out of the classroom.

Session description

The Flip Global Cultural Exchange is an immersive virtual experience connecting students of all ages, languages, and ethnicities for the purpose of building on cultural awareness, appreciation and the acknowledgment of diverse voices and experiences. Attendees will discover ways to connect diverse learners by utilizing Microsoft Flip and Immersive Reader.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to:
1. Discover new ways to engage learners through the effective use of technological tools. (Microsoft Flip, Microsoft's Immersive Reader, & Canva)
2. Create an inclusive classroom environment and community.
3. Explore culturally responsive sustaining pedagogical practices to support all diverse learners.
4. Learn how to effectively plan and execute a global instructional activity.
5. Learn how to provide multiple avenues for students to successfully engage with content.
6. Use technological tools (Microsoft's Immersive Reader) that encourage students with disabilities and ELLs to work independently.
