Session description

This session offers free resources to help teachers integrate robotics into any classroom using an online virtual robot, whether at the introductory or advanced level. Teachers will also be able to explore another aspect of robotics by working with CAD (Computer-Aided Design).

Outline

The session will begin with a video showcasing a Pre-K student's excitement after completing her first program, highlighting the joy and simplicity of robotics. Following that, I will introduce the importance of robotics in education and how accessible it can be for all learners. I'll then share my background and experience to provide context for the attendees.

We’ll dive right in with the introduction of a free resource available to everyone: the VEX Virtual Robot. Together, we’ll walk through how easy it is to program and explore the many versatile ways this platform can be used in different educational settings. Attendees will have time to brainstorm and discuss how they might create a lesson using the virtual robot.

Next, we'll move on to Computer-Aided Design (CAD), demonstrating how simple it can be to design a robot using another free, web-based tool. Attendees will have the chance to create a basic robot and engage in interactive discussions about how they can implement CAD in their own classrooms.

We’ll conclude by discussing the broader impact of robotics on students, including how it can contribute to earning Industry-Based Certifications, preparing them for future careers in technology and engineering.
