Session description

Embark on an educational scavenger hunt along the San Antonio Riverwalk! Guided by Google Maps, you will discover landmarks, solve clues, and experience the local environment, all while learning about the culture and history of the area. Join us to explore how to engage students with Google Maps scavenger hunts!

Outline

1. Introduction (5 minutes)
-Brief overview of the session objectives and agenda (slides)
-Digital icebreaker game to gauge participants' familiarity with Google Maps and Forms
-Gamification & student engagement (slides)

2. Exploring Google Maps Features (10 minutes)
-Demonstration of key Google Maps features: street view, satellite view, add marker, add directions, measure distances, accessibility (slides)

3. Designing a Scavenger Hunt (10 minutes)
-Step-by-step guide on creating an engaging scavenger hunt using Google Maps and Google Forms (slides)

4. Hands-On Scavenger Hunt Activity (60 minutes)
-Pre-test: San Antonio Culture & History
-Participants will engage in a scavenger hunt using Google Maps. They will work individually, in pairs, or in small groups to discover landmarks and solve clues along the Riverwalk.
-They will need to use their devices to complete the scavenger hunt tasks.
-First 3 teams to complete the scavenger hunt will win prizes!

5. Reflection and Conclusion (10 min)
-Post-test: San Antonio Culture & History
-Shared digital board for participants to post their reflections (challenges, successes, insights, ideas for implementation), allowing for peer-to-peer interaction and feedback
-Provide digital resources and links for further exploration
