I am currently studying Innovation and Design Engineering. I recently started working as a MakerSpace operator. When I was a high school student I had the opportunity to participate as an presenter at ISTE 2017 and 2018. So I am excited to return, but now as a teacher.

Session description

Hear about how second graders designed a device to help children identify and communicate their feelings using Micro:bit. The students will share how they developed the tool and tested it, and describe the outcomes.

Purpose & objective

Students will show participants the final product, a wearable device that helps kids communicate their feelings and have the chance to balance their moods. The device will be programmed using micro:bit. They will share evidence of their learning experience using diverse tools, STEAM practices, and research. Participants will witness students´ failures and how they used them to modify, improve, and succeed in their project, also the kids will talk about the impact this project caused on them, and how their lives have changed. The teacher will share the process she went through, how she started parting from the students' needs using different tools (one of them was the Socratic Wheel), and the way students were helped to reflect on the abilities, skills, and knowledge that were acquired during the development of the project.
