This session seeks to revitalize teachers' awareness of the power of story design in teaching. I will address three key elements of presentations during the course of the session (% represent how much time spent on each portion):
1) The story arc - how to structure a lesson to engage any audience of students, parents, or colleagues using the Hero's Journey, and the power of inquiry-based learning. (20%)
2) Presentation design - the 'show-don't-tell' rule, how to build an engaging deck with a beginning, middle and an end and how to design a slide to convey information without being cluttered. (20%)
3) The finer tips and tricks of Keynote, the Apple presentation solution for Macintosh and iOS devices. We'll cover the latest in features and functionality, creative uses and tools to enhance your presentation. (60%)
• Welcome/Introduction (5 min)
• The Power of Story - example, story spine exercise, practical application (5 min)
• Presentation Technique - presentation tips, stage presence, show-don't-tell, breath control, design principles, variable pitch and the power of silence (10 min)
• Keynote tips - embedding live and streaming videos, masks, 'Instant Alpha,' creating shapes, transparent exports (PNG & video), animations and transitions and more! (15 min)
• Q&A / Demonstration (10-15 min)
• Closing (5 min)
