Session description

Join the Calcasieu Parish Technology Team as we share our plan for implementing 3D printing into K-12 classrooms. We'll explain how the project was funded, printer chosen, professional development plan, student-created projects, project samples and task cards. Future sustainability plans and next steps will also be discussed.

Purpose & objective

Participants will learn about the basics of 3D printing.
Participants will learn how 3D printing can be integrated into all curriculum areas to elevate student engagement and learning.
Participants will leave with an understanding of how this district implemented a successful 3D printer project involving 400 teachers.
Participants will be exposed to a wide variety of task cards that demonstrate how the printer is used in the classroom.

Outline

Content and activities: We will share all about the 3D Printing in the Classroom project that was implemented in Calcasieu Parish. The purpose of the project was to take learning to a new dimension. We will share the requirements of the program, discuss the training and support that was provided to the teachers and share task cards and projects that were submitted.

Time: Since the selected format is a poster session, we will spend four to five minutes going over the 3D printing project in which will discuss and share 1. project selection criteria, 2. project components including professional development, and teacher requirements, 3. task cards and project examples, and 4. upcoming teacher challenges. A printed QR to all the resources will be provided to participants.
