Former 15 year classroom teacher, 5 year technology integration specialist turned 4 year professional development presenter and post-COVID Director of Instructional Technology in an urban school district in Hudson Valley, NY. That explains it all. I grew up in the technology lifestyle through my father and have spent the majority of my professional life trying all new things in the classroom and beyond. My current passions live inside the Computer Science world, developing an eSports CoSer for Dutchess BOCES and Dutchess County Schools, and currently promoting digital citizenship and awareness for students, teachers, and families.

Dr. Norval Connell is a passionate and dedicated public school administrator. He has dedicated his work experience and education to preparing scholars from underserved communities with 21st-century skills. He has developed a thriving computer science program in his home school district. The program is currently serving 933 scholars. Dr. Connell has completed a doctorate in education leadership and completed Master's degrees in Education Leadership, Mathematics Education, Business Administration, and Economics. In his 21 years of experience as an Analyst, SAS Programmer, Teacher, Assistant Principal, Adjunct Professor, and Instructional Leader, Dr. Connell has championed the use and study of Computer Science.

Victoria Curry is currently an instructional lead focused on data analytics and professional development for Ulster BOCES, in New York State. She has been a school and district leader in public education for over her 20 years in the field. Session description

Join three passionate computer science educators as we lead a campfire discussion on igniting students’ and their families' passions for learning computer science. Our goal is to help educators infuse urban public school and higher ed communities with 21st-century skills that will give students a voice in tomorrow's economy.

Purpose & objective

Purpose: to provide like-minded educators an informal, safe space to discuss, share strategies, and network to extend the conversation beyond the conference.

Goal: to help educators infuse urban public school and higher ed communities with 21st-century skills that will give students a voice in tomorrow's economy.

Objectives:
Participants will engage in an opening activity to define equality, equity, inequality, and justice.
Participants will learn how the presenters create equitable spaces for students to learn computer science.
Participants will discuss computer science in their communities.
Participants will leave with additional strategies to bring computer science to their communities.
