Anurupa Ganguly is the Founder & CEO of Prisms, a VR learning platform that teaches foundational secondary math and science concepts spatially and steeped in real-world contexts, before building up to symbolic notation. Anurupa began her career as a math & physics teacher and later served in leadership roles across the Boston Public Schools, NYC DOE, and Success Academies. She holds degrees in EECS from MIT, and an EdM from BU.

As Head of Global Education Partnerships and Immersive Learning at Meta, Leticia Jauregui is helping build an immersive tech ecosystem to support learning in the metaverse. Leticia has been recognized as one of the most powerful women in Mexico by Forbes. Prior to joining Meta, she was focused on disruptive innovation and economic development in emerging markets as a serial entrepreneur, investor and independent board member. Leticia holds a M.Sc. in Community Development and a M.Sc. in Agricultural and Resources Economics from UC Davis. She additionally completed the Graduate Studies Program at Singularity University, specializing in Exponential Technologies for Development. She is an Echoing Green Fellow, a Rising Talent of the Women’s Forum, a Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards Finalist and a Global Shapers Alumni of the World Economic Forum, amongst other fellowships and awards.

Chris McLean is the Assistant Director of Higher Education at VictoryXR. In his role with VictoryXR, Chris works with college and universities to implement immersive virtual reality learning programs. Chris is passionate about integrating immersive technology into education to improve student outcomes and accessibility. Prior to working at VXR, Chris was an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Muhsinah Holmes Morris is a BS chemistry graduate of the HBCU Clark Atlanta University. She obtained an MS & PhD from Emory University in Biomolecular Chemistry. She is an Assistant Professor of Education. Dr. Morris has been part of and Director of Morehouse’s Metaversity project since Spring 2021. Awards for Teaching Excellence at Morehouse College, Best Emerging Technology and Innovation from CBRE, First Place Unconventional Innovation in Industry by T-Mobile, and 2022 Educator of the Year by STEM Women Atlanta. She resides in McDonough, GA with her husband and five sons. More recently, she founded Metaverse United (unitethemetaverse.com).

Session description

Meta and its partners VictoryXR, Morehouse College, and Prisms will share how they have effectively integrated virtual reality into classroom learning, both at the high school and higher educational level, creating impact for students of all ages.

Purpose & objective

The goal of this discussion is to share use cases in which VR has meaningfully contributed to improved learning outcomes. This panel will give voice to a diversity of stakeholders in the space from VR content developers to educators to tech companies who are working together to support immersive and enriching learning experiences for students.

Outline

Immersive technologies can unlock opportunities to learn in ways never before deemed possible. Meta will moderate a panel with its partners and share current ways in which educators and students are interacting with and learning from virtual reality.

• Steve Grubbs at VictoryXR will share how educators are leveraging VR to dissect human anatomy
• Anurupa Ganguly at Prisms will share how her platform is making algebra more accessible to teens
• Dr. Muhsinah Morris will share how students are experimenting in a virtual chemistry lab on Morehouse College’s Metaversity campus

Additional topics will include examples of student achievement within VR, institutional hurdles to implementing VR on campus, opportunities to increase access and equity to technology, the role of educators in facilitating VR experiences, and new advancements in technology including the role of AI. The panel is designed to capture learnings and best practices so that the audience leaves with tangible takeaways.
