Session description

Immersed in the field, can our students empathize with a real problem and create solutions for the elderly´s emotional well-being? Witness how they used the design thinking process and produced technology in an easily replicable project to make a positive social impact in nursing homes around the world.

Purpose & objective

During a visit of social participation of our students to a nursing home, we found depressed, deprived and isolated people, our students thought of finding a solution to this social problem and discovered that technology can bring them closer to this goal. They designed a website that meets the visual, auditory and practical features they need to improve connectivity with their loved ones, information relevant to their needs, guilty pleasures and activities that bring them closer to improving their well-being. All designed through design thinking in which they know the user, and design specifically for this sector.
By browsing our website participants will see how our students developed social skills such as empathy, inclusion, tolerance, and hard skills critical thinking, computational, technology, coding, maker thinking; all geared to help the vulnerable.
The attendee will leave this session with the necessary tools to detect a social problem and to and provide a solution using technology as the main aid to help the most vulnerable through a replicable project that will have a real impact.
Finally we intend to seek sponsors who are interested in the project and want to support us in the implementation of the project.

Outline

What will be the benefits of attending our session:
They will have access to a web page specially created for the teachers that explains step by step the process the students and teachers went through during this project, including the difficulties they faced in order to be able to replicate the project for other teachers around the world. It also includes evidence of well-being through metrics, photos and videos showing what they achieved.
They will be able to manipulate the web page created by the students and navigate through it checking the functionality of its design according to the age of the target users, seniors.
Connect through the created page with an old man in the nursing home and in this way they can SEE first hand that the tool that the girls created works.
