Sean Arnold is the director of school pathways for the New York City Department of Education where he works with the Student Pathways team to guide computer science, college/career readiness and career technical education. He previously worked as a special educator, music educator and STEM/CS coach in NYC’s District 75, citywide special education. Both roles have given him the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students and educators, and he remains committed to accessibly and equitably reaching ALL students through innovative technology and practices. Arnold is also an ongoing advocate for the power gamification and hands-on learning challenges to empower student achievement. He has received the ISTE Outstanding Teacher Honorable Mention, ISTE Inclusive Learning Network Outstanding Educator Award, NYCDOE Excellence in School Technology Award and the EDxEDNYC Excellence in Technology Award. He’s an Apple Distinguished Educator and Learning Coach; an Adobe Creative Educator Leader; a Google Certified Innovator, Coach and Trainer; and a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and Certified Trainer. She is a recipient of the #NYCSchoolsTech Award, Brooklyn HS Superintendents Champion Award for Digital Innovation in the Classroom, and Excellence in Remote Learning. She hosts the NYC Google Educator Group through #NYCSchoolsTech Meetups, is an Edcamp organizer, and leads her school’s Ed Tech team.

Jen Leban, NBCT, is an Instructional Technology Coach with the Learning Technology Center of IL. She is a 2020 IL State Teacher of the Year Finalist, a Google Certified Innovator (#LAX18), Google Coach, Apple Learning Coach, Adobe Creative Educator Leader, and a children’s book illustrator. She is a 20+ year teaching veteran with experience teaching grades K-8 in fine arts, technology, and library/makerspace classes.

Session description

Life is filled with obstacles, especially for educators. And young people today are navigating social and emotional challenges unlike any previous generation. And these recent years haven’t helped. So let’s normalize discussion of mental and physical health for us and our students and discuss, explore and try what may help.

Purpose & objective

The Participants will:
-Find and engage in strategies to manage their physical/mental health
-Find and engage in strategies to manage/monitor students' physical/mental health
-Discover culturally responsive cognitive-behavioral approaches
-Learn standards for social-emotional learning
-Build worthwhile connections with fellow educators for support
