Session description

See how preschool students learned about different artists and their movements through maker STEM activities, allowing them to experience the lives of artists and share them in an augmented reality app.

Purpose & objective

During this presentation the teachers and student presenters will share with attendees how Latin preschoolers developed and used strategies for collaborative work, and creative skills. They will be able to express themselves orally and summarize what they have learned.

They will share how technology motivated students to learn about art, biographies of the artists through the use of the greenscreen and the different dimensions applied to videos, iPads, and augmented reality. Students will be able to share evidence and answer question attendees may have.

Teacher presenters will share useful tips and tools regarding the planning process and evaluation if attendees wish to apply them in their practice.

Students will research and get information from getting to know special guests such as artists, experts and field trips.

Preschool students will use ScratchJr to program a short biography about the different authors' lives. This program will benefit, motivate and practice reading as well as develop computational thinking skills by creating a story that reads out loud when you touch the words and, at the same time, pictures will move. During the session, attendees will hear from the preschool student presenters the coding process, the difficulties they presented and how they managed to solve those issues.

Outline

During the presentation students will share their experience by explaining to fellow attendees their work by showing their artwork that will be hanging on the walls, the posters, and a triptych with QR codes projecting videos with the student´s work.

Teachers will share strategies to anyone wishing to replicate them or apply them to their practice, as well as planning and evaluation tools will be handed to the attendees in case they wish to replicate the project.

Also, attendees get to see, and work with, the short biographies students made with ScratchJr and an explanation of how it was achieved.
