Session description

Learn how middle school students used the power of social media to encourage girls to become scientists with augmented reality storytelling Instagram filters.

Purpose & objective

Through out history, women have had less opportunities than men to study, work, or develop a professional career. Even though female professional carriers have developed in the 21st century, we believe that women have the potential to become leaders of big industries and corporations. Many women have inspired us to follow our passions and create a difference, leaving a big footprint in the history of the world.

Join this session to learn how Middle School students from Highlands International School, México used the power of social media to tell the story of the most influential women in history to empower young girls to dream big.

First, students had to research about women who have made an impact in history. They wrote an interactive digital book of stories and published it Apple Books. Then, students designed a range of AR filter prototypes in Keynote and Reality Composer to later create them in Spark AR. They created an Instagram account to promote their book of short stories as they published their own Instagram Filters to promote the life and achievements of famous scientific women in history.

Our main purpose and objectives are:
To share with the audience how students are using the power of Social Media to deliver a message to teenagers.
To share how Technology is transforming the way students learn inside their classrooms.
To empower young girls to become scientists.
To share with the audience student creations and proposals that contribute to a better world.
To give our students an international platform to share their ideas.
