The purpose of this presentation is to share the importance of giving access to technology in under-privelaged communities where students have diverse backrounds and high needs. Teachers collaborated and students were actively engaged in the learning process. Participants attending this session will leave with the knowedge that a few basic tools can engage students and helps students develop communication, collaboration and critical thinking skills along with knowledge of content areas (in this case, weather science and ELA along with video production). Participants will also see the final projects that were presented to the school along with our administrators and district leaders who were in attendance.
Activities will include: Presenter introductions (5 min), overview of the project (10 minutes), overview of materials used and basic skills needed (15 minutes), breakdown of production timeline (15 min), samples of student work (20 minutes), Q & A (10-15 min). The remainder of time will be used for participants to outline how they could apply this project in their classrooms with presenters supporting and answering questions (30 min), and ending with time to share ideas (10 min).
Supporting research includes the work of Renee Hobbs, Frank Baker, Faith Rogow and Cindy Scheibe.
