Dr. Kaylah Holland is passionate about empowering educators through professional development, one on one coaching, and innovative lesson design. She holds a Doctorate of Education in Instructional Design and Technology with extensive research in active learning environments. She has spent years empowering educators and championing student-centered classrooms. She is a Google Certified Trainer & Innovator, a college professor, an ISTE community Leader, and was presented the “20 to Watch” award by ISTE in 2022. Kaylah is the Director of Instructional Technology and Blended Learning for BreakFree Education and works to empower educators to radically improve education inside juvenile justice facilities.

Session description

This highly interactive session will address common instructional coach issues and present five best practices for coaching to make the greatest impact, including relationships, goal setting, workflows, self-care and reflection. You'll leave with a plethora of templates and resources to use in your coaching practice.

Purpose & objective

Purpose:
Using design thinking principles and best coaching practices, this session will address common issues with being an instructional coach and will provide attendees with a plethora of templates and resources to use in their own coaching practice within the five categories of relationships, professional development (setting goals), workflows, self-care, and reflection. This session will be highly interactive modeling best professional development techniques including movement and activities that are both tactile and digital.

Outline

Outline:
5 minutes - introduction of presenter and background
10 minutes - activity to discuss elements of a great coach
30 minutes - presentation of five best practices including building relationships, setting ambitious goals, managing your workflows, taking care of yourself, and reflecting on the process - (activities will be included in each section to help attendees reflect on the practices and set action steps to implement them in their school)
15 minutes - introduction & overview of takeaway resources, reflection activity, and wrap up
