Session description

Have you heard of FIRST, NMSI, the SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program, MATHCOUNTS or SeaPerch? With opportunities across the country, the Department of Defense STEM supports these and many other programs for students and educators. Learn about these programs and resources to improve STEM learning in and out of the classroom.

Purpose & objective

The main focus of this workshop is highlighting the many resources and opportunities for students, through summer camps, competitions, internships, apprenticeships, and scholarships, as well as teachers through online resources, professional development, fellowships, and more. With programs in all 50
states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, DoD STEM is able to provide a broad range of STEM programs and activities. Session attendees will learn about these opportunities by interacting with the DoD STEM website during the session, exploring the resources in pairs or small groups and then sharing out to the larger group. In this way, attendees will learn about programs in their local areas, as well as national programs that themselves, their colleagues, or their students can engage in, leaving the session with a heightened understanding of the resources available through DoD STEM.
