Session description

Explore how students can claim ownership of their learning with an evolving portfolio that uses voice and video to support goal setting. The strategies can be applied to a number of programs across all subject areas, and use digital tools to support data collection.

Purpose & objective

Challenge: Students participate in learning portfolios for data collection but do not have access to learning or growth.

Participant Objectives:
-Participants will learn tools to collect data and information to create student-driven portfolios
-Participants will identify goal-setting techniques to use with students
-Participants will make connections to the creation of portfolios across all subject areas.

Technology intervention:
-Seesaw
-Apple App- Keynote
-Apple App- Voice Memos

Instructional strategies:
-Students tracking their own progress
-Students use goal-setting strategies for their portfolio
-Students adding their voice to products
-Students adding videos to their products

Success: Students have ownership over their progress, use goal setting to take ownership of growth, and have a portfolio from beginning to end of the year of learning across all subject areas.

Outline

Content and Activities: Teachers will see the virtual portfolios examples and then build a hands-on portfolio using Keynote to track their progress using a portfolio template. Participants will get a template from a Padlet. Teachers will reflect on how to use portfolios in multiple content areas.

Time: View example portfolios of student work and progress (10 mins), work in a template (20 min)
