Session description
BreakFree Education invites you behind bars to learn about the juvenile justice system. We will address the school-to-prison pipeline, school policies, secure schools in jails, detentions and long-term placements. Two million students walk our hallways annually and return to your classrooms; visitation is required to learn more!
Purpose & objective
This session aims to introduce teachers to what happens to students when they leave their classrooms and end up involved in the justice system. We will share statistics, curriculum designs, resources, and recommendations for changes to support students in their classroom or when they transition back in.
Participants will become informed agents of change who can impact their current students who are in need of additional support. Teachers will build empathy around the secure spaces students attend and understand and value their educational experiences in these facilities.
