Christina Jackson is the Manager of Special and Elective Curriculum at Commonwealth Charter Academy. Christina taught high school math before moving into curriculum and instructional coaching. She currently leads a team of designers in the creation of online specials and elective curriculum including STEAM and career pathway opportunities. With each course, the goal is to integrate meaning for students and real-life connections for continual learning. Additionally, Christina’s experience with flipped learning and content writing led to the creation of a “Magic Board” for use in recording and live instruction.

Greg Natale is the Product Manager at Commonwealth Charter Academy. He has worked on analyzing user behavior, LMS development, mobile app design & implementation, early warning & intervention systems, and administrative analytics. Greg’s work, focused on system-person interactions, has not only helped to personalize the online learning experience but also to develop more effective communication channels from a variety of stakeholders in a student’s education. Greg continues to evaluate technologies that could positively impact and improve education in the online setting.

Session description

Explore technologically and pedagogically sound solutions to common issues in online education. Consider identified barriers and match solutions to implement in the online setting. Explore a variety of tools and strategies that can help with low scores, low attendance, parent engagement and more!

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to consider the engagement issues in their classrooms and decide upon the approach to address them. They will be able to select tools for supporting engagement and how to incorporate other stakeholders.

Participants will identify barriers in terms of engagement.
Presenters will review their key identified points as they pertain to engagement.
Presenters will match some pedagogically sound solutions to each engagement issue identified.
Participants will participate in an activity through matching the solutions and be exposed to some through the presentation
