Team Leader of Innovation and Technology
Ian Fairhurst is the Team Leader of Innovation & Technology at Knox Grammar Preparatory School in Sydney, Australia. Responsible for leading and supporting staff & students in the immersive use of digital & design technologies embedded in innovative learning experiences, he is passionate about embedding authentic globally-focused learning opportunities through STEAM education, as well as establishing an active maker-culture in schools. Ian has a master’s degree in Innovation & Change, and has presented globally on developing real-world educational experiences with an empathy+STEAM approach. His vision is to provide opportunities for the next generation of leaders to engage with authentic issues in our world.

With over 10 years of experience in educational technology, he is an enthusiastic supporter of the maker movement and believes in providing students with hands-on learning experiences to foster growth mindset and problem-solving skills. Angus has successfully implemented numerous technology initiatives in schools and is committed to equipping students with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

You'll learn how to successfully implement VR into your teaching programs to facilitate a practical and hands-on approach to inquiry-based learning.

Purpose:Learn ways to authentically and purposefully implement Virtual Reality to successfully engage students with relevant content, provide meaningful and real world learning opportunities, and foster rich educational experiences for all students.
Objectives: Understand the possibilities VR can have on student learning. Showcase ways VR can be incorporated into a current unit. To leave feeling inspired by the potential VR can have on student learning and in their ongoing understanding as a global citizen.
